- Biography
Dean Yamada grew up in the farming community of Davis, California. His dad was a Nisei (second generation Japanese American) farmer and the inspiration for his graduate thesis film at USC. While attending film school, Dean worked at FilmRoos as both a production coordinator and assistant editor. Currently, Dean teaches film at Biola University in La Mirada and brings a class of students to Tokyo every other year to shoot a film. Their first collaboration won first place at the Inigo Film Festival in Sydney, Australia and their most recent project, Jitensha, is about to hit the festival circuit.
Before his life in film, Dean worked as a waiter at a sushi bar, ski instructor for children in Lake Tahoe, ESL teacher in Japan and once traveled from Hong Kong to London via train.
