Biography

Born in Puerto Rico and raised in Miami, Adam Schlachter graduated from the American Film Institute with an M.F.A. in Film Directing, completed a Professional Certificate in Screenwriting from UCLA, and earned a B.F.A. in Film Production from Florida State University. A finalist in Esquire Magazine's Celluloid Style Film Competition for his film adaptation, "Father Figure", he recently finished an experimental short, "The Stain On The Sidewalk", a promotional spot for Bud Light, "We Are All Latino", and several spec commercials for T-Mobile. His debut feature, "The 7", played in the Cannes Film Market, was promoted at the Berlinale Talent Campus, and is available for distribution through Worldwide Film Entertainment. Adam has written and directed a dozen shorts, written seven feature screenplays, attended seven esteemed writing and producing labs, and is a member of the Writers Guild of America. Adam will complete script development on his next passion project, "They Sway Toward The Sun", which he plans to produce and direct, while continuing the CBS Directing Initiative and the NBC-Universal Writers Showcase, two television fellowships he was selected to participate in, and directing two indie shorts, "The Perfect Shot" and "The Bridge". He is in post on an entirely improvised feature film.

Film Information & Synopsis

“My Backyard Was A Mountain” is the story of Adan, a Puerto Rican boy who has one day to find a home for his pet goat, Chivo, before his family relocates to New York City in the late 1950’s. While searching for a new owner for Chivo, Adan discovers the promise of first love with his childhood friend, Denise, whom he will also have to leave behind.

Festival Experience

"My Backyard Was A Mountain" won over thirty grand prizes at over one hundred and fifty international festivals, film markets, and special screenings. It qualified and was shortlisted for the Academy Awards in the Live Action Short Category and found distribution on DVD, TV, and iTunes. Favorite festivals: SXSW, Berlinale, Sundance, Cannes. Little gems: RIIFF, LALIFF, NYILFF, Stony Brook.
